MSU Cloud Computing Fellow Application Deadline October 2
MSU’s Institute of Cyber-Enabled Research and MSU IT Services are accepting applications from MSU doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers to join the second cohort of MSU Cloud Computing Fellows. As a part of this program, you will participate in a series of workshops that will teach you how to:
- Determine the aspects of your research that can be improved with cloud computing;
- Port your research application to the cloud and develop a cloud-based workflow; and
- Understand the strengths and limitations of commercial cloud computing, and optimize your workflow to maximize scientific yield and minimize cost.
Following the workshops you will receive hands-on support with optimizing your research application for cloud computing and for any issues that you encounter with your cloud experience (using computing credits provided as a part of the fellowship). At the end of the spring semester, we will have a symposium where you will present the results of your experiments. We will further publicize your work through a variety of channels. In addition to participation and cloud computing credits, Cloud Computing Fellows will receive a small cash stipend after the successful completion of the fellowship.
If you are interested, please submit your application here by no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020. Applications will be judged by (1) the likelihood of the research application benefiting in a meaningful way from cloud computing; (2) the applicant’s ability to successfully participate in the training workshops and symposium; and (3) the research application’s contribution to a broad and diverse range of topical areas and cloud usage modalities. If you have any questions, please contact the ICER Director, Professor Brian O’Shea, at oshea@msu.edu.
