Faculty Recognition
National and international faculty awards are an important component of institutional reputation and are one of the four “phase I” AAU membership indicators. We want to ensure that MSU faculty, and the university as a whole, receive appropriate recognition. Thus, it is important that individual faculty, departments, and colleges are active in nominating members for appropriate awards and, where appropriate, inviting external support for MSU faculty candidates for such awards.
The National Research Council (NRC) maintains a list of faculty awards considered “prestigious” and “highly prestigious.”
The links below list NRC awards within each of four broad disciplinary areas. (Note: the AAU only counts the “highly prestigious” awards.)
For assistance with award applications, letters of support and more, please contact the Research Facilitation and Dissemination grant writers at (517) 432-4499 or email Lauren Aerni-Flessner or Sobha Ramanand.
Additionally, the Office of Planning and Budgets (OPB) provides access to a scholarly awards database compiled by Academic Analytics.
This “Honorific Awards Analysis” helps identify nomination opportunities for many specific awards for under-recognized faculty at MSU, as well as identify faculty nationally who might serve as nominators or references.
For more information about this service, please contact your dean, department chair, or program director, or email Kyle Sweitzer in OPB.
